involving trigonometric functions, solutions of right and oblique triangles.
Prerequisite: MATH 1314, or
placement into Trigonometry. (Formerly MTH 111). (F, Sp).
III. PREREQUISITES FOR THE COURSE:
MATH 1314 College Algebra, or placement into
Trigonometry
IV. TEXT AND OTHER SUPPLIES REQUIRED:
TEXT: TRIGONOMETRY (sixth edition) by Lial, Hornsby, and Schneider
OTHER SUPPLIES: A graphing calculator. Preferably a TI-82 (or TI-83) which is required in other math courses at this university.
V. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
This course is
designed to enable students to understand and work comfortably with:
1. trigonometric
functions,
2. angles, radian
measure, and circular functions,
3. trigonometric
identities,
4. inverse
trigonometric functions and trigonometric equations, and
5. complex numbers and
polar equations.
VI. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND ACTIVITIES:
Methods and activities for instruction include: lectures and problem solving; group discussions and group work; homework assignments and solutions; graphing calculator exercises. Students are expected to use the facilities provided by the Teaching and Tutoring Center located in the Bell Library in room 216. These facilities include an interactive computer instruction program, videos on the textbook sections, a copy of the Students Solution Manual and personal tutoring.
